Grafting & Budding Knife for Left & Right Handed Use 2.5′ Blades. The rosewood handle grafting knife have two different 2.5′ blades: 1. The hawk-bill blade is completely flat on the left and beveled on the right. 2. The straight blade is completely flat on the right and beveled on the left. The hawk-bill is intended for making cuts away from yourself, minimizing the risk of injury while giving you perfectly flat cuts on your scion. The straight blade is intended for downward motion cuts on the rootstock for side veneer and cleft grafts. This knife can be used by either a left or right handed person. If you’re a left handed, you simply switch the blades for the same motion of cuts. This a rare and unique knife that is not available anywhere else on the internet or brick and mortar shops. Blade MaterialThe blades of this knife is made up of 5CR13MoV steel that is mostly used for high quality tactical and hunting knives. This is a very hard steel according to Wikipedia on the Rockwell C scale (HRC). The Rockwell scale is a hardness scale used to gauge resistance to indentation of a material. According to Wikipedia, the hardness rating on 5CR13MoV steel is between 55-57 HRC. This means that this grafting knife will keep its edge longer than the other cheap knives using 3CR13MoV, or lower grade steel, due to the higher content of carbon in the material composition. This blade is capable of cutting very dense wood such as longan and jaboticaba. Grafting Techniques: Cleft – similar diameter scion Offset cleft – scion slightly smaller than rootstock Bark graft – small scion and large rootstock Veneer graft – small scion or same scion size as rootstock Whip graft – small scion or same scion size as rootstock.
